One Day, So Many Ways

Aimed at children aged 7-11, this book is a celebration of life around the world. What do you eat for breakfast if you live in Japan? How do you get to school if you live in Greenland? What games do you play with your friends if you live in Nepal? All these questions and more are answered as you take a tour around forty countries of the world from dawn to dusk.

Reviews

“This beautiful non-fiction book would be a fantastic text to use as a stimulus for work in any KS1 classroom ... Children could be encouraged to write and then talk about their own lives ... The book also provides an opportunity to create links with schools in other countries- children could write letters to other children...encouraging partner schools to do the same.”

Kinfolk Islands
I contributed two sections to this beautiful coffee-table book focused on slow travel, one about the islands of Finland and another about bothies in Scotland. It’s a project close to my heart, diving into authentic life around the world and exploring islands off the beaten track.

TimeOut Copenhagen (2019)
I wrote this guide for first timers in the city with the excellent Time Out team. I’ve been writing travel guides since I was in my early twenties and enjoyed getting under the skin of my adopted home city with this book, with updated sections on culture and lifestyle.

Footprint Reykjavik (2003-2015)
I wrote the world’s first guide to the northernmost city in the world when I was 25. It’s been reprinted and updated multiple times, complete with magical elves, shaggy Icelandic ponies, hot springs, waterfalls, glaciers, beautiful people, strange food and the most unbelievable scenery.

1001 Escapes to Experience Before You Die
From a fabulous round hippy house in Goa to luxury hotels in Iceland and hideaways in Sri Lanka, I covered the best destinations I’d visited as a travel journalist and hotel reviewer, as a contributor to the project.
