I love working with schools. Nothing compares to a morning spent in a classroom with six to twelve-year-olds talking about books. Here’s how I like to do it.
In the last couple of years, I’ve been lucky enough to be invited in to schools to talk about One Day, So Many Ways. In close consultation with the teacher, I’ve used it to kick off conversations about diversity and culture, and about travelling the world in general.

I talk to children as young as six and as old as thirteen . We think critically about what it’s like to experience different situations and different cultures. It’s not about value judgements, it’s about opening our eyes to new ideas and other ways to be, and to understand the magnificent diversity there is in the world.

My favourite conversations are always the ones about food: I love stories about the strangest food they’ve ever eaten (sea urchins, and strange fish, crocodile, and things they don’t even know the names and can only describe by texture) and of the traditions their families keep alive, even when they might live a long way from their home country.

I’m always open to talking to classes online or in person. If you’d like to talk about taking One Day, So Many Ways to your school, just send me an email.
